The Ponant Cruise Line ship Jacques Cartier is en route to Marseille, France, with 11 people onboard who have tested positive for Covid-19, according to the French newspaper Le Monde. The French cruise ship had been held by Italian authorities since early last week because of the positive tests, the newspaper reported.

Ponant said those infected — eight crew members and three passengers — will be transferred to French health facilities. The line said it had tested all crew and passengers prior to boarding.

France is among several European countries that are entering into partial lockdowns this week in an effort to abate a Covid-19 surge. Some cruise lines last week said they were canceling or curtailing operations as a result, while others will continue to sail.

The 246-passenger Jacques Cartier is Ponant’s sixth and final Explorer-class ship, delivered in July by Norway’s Vard shipyard. Ponant resumed cruises on July 11 and has operated sailings in France, Iceland, the Arctic and Croatia as well as in French Polynesia with its Paul Gauguin ship.
