MALAYSIA is expected to see a seven percent increase in business travel this year, according to The Malaysia Major Events, a division of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
General manager Tony Nagamaiah said that they predict an influx of 1.59 million business travelers into the country in 2016, compared to 1.49 million last year.
“Business tourists are high spenders and can spend more than RM7,000 (US$1719) per person on a three-day stay here”, he added.
According to The Star, Tony also said that Malaysia was a popular choice among business travelers for its value-for-money accommodation and travel costs.
“If you look at the figure, our hotel rates, in terms of US dollars, is the cheapest and most value for money in the region,” he said.
He assured that business events are a key enabler in leading Malaysia to achieve a developed nation status by 2020.
Last year, MyCEB supported 214 business events – 78 conventions, 112 corporate meetings/incentives and 24 trade exhibitions – in the country.
The events created an economic impact of RM1.3 billion (US$320 million) for Malaysia.
