If you’re like me, every time you check out of a hotel there’s a certain part of the property you wish you could take home. I used my move to the DC region earlier this year as an opportunity to finally act on that feeling and add a Hyatt Grand Bed II as the centerpiece of my master bedroom. Today, I’ll share my experience of ordering and sleeping on a Hyatt Grand Bed and explore the other options available to turn your bedroom into a nightly hotel sleeping experience.
My wife has scoliosis that makes good sleep and being comfortable an ever-present problem. After several of our Hyatt stays, we noticed she slept very well on Hyatt Grand beds, which led us to recreate the good sleeping experience in our new home. I looked at the Hyatt At Home website and, after comparing prices, found that it was priced competitively with King beds from other well-known manufacturers.
After a New Years stay at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, we slept wonderfully and decided on a King Grand Bed II Euro Pillowtop mattress and box spring with delivery for a total of $1,824. The lead time given was six weeks, as I was told the beds are not stocked but made on a per-order basis.
Six weeks came and passed without a call from Hyatt At Home (note that it’s completely separate entity from Hyatt Hotels) so I gave the company a ring. A back and forth for eight days ensued about a contracted delivery agent who couldn’t get their act together, but finally the bed was delivered, and Hyatt At Home ended up refunding me $200 for the trouble.
My wife has never had better sleep, which in turn makes the entire day a better experience, especially now that she’s seven months pregnant.
Hyatt At Home does not accept Hyatt gift cards and is billed as a standard online, mail or telephone transaction earning only 1 point per dollar. I used my Chase Sapphire Preferred Card to earn almost 2,000 Ultimate Rewards points. I can also file a claim with Chase for up to $500 of purchase protection from the card in case of accidental damage to the bed in the first 120 days. Other Hotel Beds
Several other hotel chains offer their own products, which include not only beds, but almost everything you can find in a hotel room. Here are some of the most popular options and a few bits of information for each:
- The Westin Store also offers a comprehensive array of items you find in your hotel rooms, including the famous Heavenly Bed, which may be the most popular bed people buy for their homes. The agent I chatted with said I would not earn bonus Starpoints if I used my Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express to buy the bed.
- W Hotels The Store offers the W Hotel Bed in both plush and pillow-top varieties. The store has several bedding sets and W Hotel accessories for sale as well. I often see sizable discounts from the W Hotels Store, and I know several people who swear by this bed and first search to stay at W Hotels on their trips because of it.
- Hilton To Home occasionally offers sales on its beds (as do the other merchants), though it’s worth noting I rarely hear anyone raving about their Hilton sleep experience. You cannot use Hilton gift cards to make purchases, and according to an agent at the store you would not earn any bonus Hilton points for using a Hilton co-branded credit card.
Are Hotel Beds Worth It?
If you’ve found a particular hotel chain that gives you the best night’s rest every time you travel, it may be time to look seriously at improving your at-home sleep. You spend the most time of any place in your bed, so it’s worth spending a little bit of money to ensure you’re properly fueled for the day ahead. However, note that you can’t return any of these beds if you’re unhappy with your sleep, so make sure to visit a hotel beforehand and thoroughly research your options before ordering.
The one possibility I can see for earning bonus points on any of these beds is the AT&T Access More Credit Card from Citi, which earns 3x ThankYou points on purchases made online at retail and travel sites. It might be worth forfeiting any bonus points if you’re working toward minimum spending for a sign-up bonus, though, since this large purchase will definitely help you reach the spending requirement.
