Abu Dhabi Airports has welcomed the inaugural Pegasus flight arriving from Istanbul, Turkey.

The maiden flight marks the commencement of a direct service three times a week between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen Airport by Pegasus.

The inaugural flight arrived at 03:25 and was welcomed with the traditional water cannon salute at the capital’s airport.

The new low-cost route will be operated by a Boeing B737-800 with 189-seat capacity.

London flights connecting to Abu Dhabi via Istanbul depart from London Stansted at 14:00 three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the flights connecting on from Istanbul at 21:45.

The flights return from Abu Dhabi Airport at 04:25 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

With the addition of Abu Dhabi to its network, Pegasus now connects 105 destinations in 40 countries.

Commenting on the launch of its latest destination, Pegasus Airlines chief commercial officer, Güliz Öztürk, said: “As Turkey’s leading low-cost airline, with scheduled flights to 105 destinations in 40 countries we are delighted to be launching flights to the majestic city of Abu Dhabi, our second destination in the United Arab Emirates.

“Our guests will be able to fly from 55 destinations to Abu Dhabi airport via Pegasus’ hub at Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen.

“We are confident that our low fares and wide ranging travel services will drive more traffic between Abu Dhabi and our extending network of destinations.”
