Private and community-owned game reserves, represented as the Greater Kruger Environmental Protection Foundation (GKEPF), on the western boundary of the Kruger National Park, have joined forces with conservation agencies, NGOs and security service providers to bolster conservation management integrated anti-poaching strategies across the region.
The partnerships were officially declared in June, with the opening of a central command and communications centre at the Southern African Wildlife College, near Hoedspruit, Limpopo.
There is now an extended digital communications system in place, which allows for secure and seamless communication between security personnel in KNP and the private and community-managed game reserves on both sides of the KNP boundary.
Specific focus was placed on improving security infrastructure at Manyeleti Game Reserve, which was previously targeted by poaching syndicates as an access route to enter the KNP and surrounding reserves.
