Launching in early September, The Lampery will be a new all-day dining spot providing good, honest cooking in the heart of historic London.
Inspired by a passion for authentic British cuisine and locally-sourced produce, the restaurant and cocktail bar will be located within Apex Hotel City of London on Seething Lane.
Situated a short walk from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, the restaurant will be the ideal venue for Londoners and tourists alike to enjoy a meal with family and friends or to host a quick business meeting, with the space also encompassing a cocktail bar and terrace area that will feature a leafy green canopy and a bright aspect out onto Seething Lane.
The Lampery takes its name from one of Seething Lane’s most illustrious former residents and his favourite dish.
Samuel Pepys was an MP known for his 17th century diary that details life in the capital at the time, including two of its most well-documented events the Great Fire of London and the plague.
As an avid foodie, Pepys peppered his diary with details of his favourite meals and one dish that stands out is The Lampery pye, which he describes as ‘most rare’ in among a selection he devours at one of his famous feasts.
The kitchen at The Lampery will be led by head chef Edward Smith, with signature dishes including the London Particular, a thick pea and ham soup inspired by the ‘peasouper’ fogs that used to engulf London, and The Lampery Pye, a new take on a classic made with slow braised beef cheek and prunes.
The menu will regularly change in tune with seasonal produce in order to provide diners with the most flavoursome options available.
For those looking for lighter bites, a menu of small plates will be served daily from lunchtime onwards in the bar and terrace, including ‘Rarebit’ crumpet bread, treacle pickled quail’s eggs, black pepper & thyme sausage rolls with homemade ketchup and white asparagus with almond mayonnaise.
Served on the Lampery terrace, guests will also be able to enjoy breakfast daily with the choice of smaller dishes such as scotch oats with a side of apricot & cardamom or sourdough toast with London honey.
The Lampery will be the latest addition to the capital’s booming dining scene, a no-nonsense restaurant with a passion for British ingredients.
Located in the heart of one of London’s most historic neighbourhoods, Tower Bridge, it will be the perfect new destination for a celebration, a long lingering dinner with friends or a snappy work lunch.
