Emirates has revealed that July was a record-breaking month for the airline, carrying more passengers than ever before.
With over 265,000 passengers carried out of the UK throughout the month, the UK has become an increasingly important market for Emirates since 1987, when it first started operating in the UK and carried 4,000 passengers that July.
A record July was recorded at all six of Emirates’ UK gateways.
Over 140,000 passengers flew out of London (Heathrow and Gatwick combined), while the regions performed equally strongly.
Manchester recorded over 48,000 passengers in July, while Birmingham saw over 40,000 Glasgow over 22,000 and Newcastle over 12,000.
Emirates’ network helps passengers from across the UK to reach many popular destinations around the world with just one connection.
The top destinations for UK travellers in July were Dubai, Bangkok, Phuket, Mauritius, Maldives, and Bali.
The record month comes as the airline celebrates its 30th year of operations in the UK by announcing that it is on track to carry five million passengers between the UK and Dubai in the 2017/18 financial year, making it a further record year for the airline.
This is an increase on the 2016/17 total for the growing airline, which saw 4.92 million passengers fly between the UK and Dubai.
Laurie Berryman, vice president, UK, Emirates, said: “July has been a phenomenal month for us across all our gateways – showing the nationwide appeal of our services and the growing importance of our regional hubs.
“With 265,000 passengers carried in the UK and 30 successful years under our belts, we look forward to the future and to more records being smashed.”
