Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) won the Airports Council International (ACI) 2017 Safety Award for best airport in Africa within its category, on October 17 at the 27th ACI Africa World Annual General Assembly, which took place in Mauritius.

The ACI Safety Awards recognise the achievements of airports of different sizes across the African continent, and are presented to airports that have demonstrated their commitment to providing excellence in safety and compliance practices.

“It’s an honour and privilege to receive this award and we are humbled to be recognised among so many great airports across our African continent,” says Marius Nel, CEO of KMIA.

KMIA is celebrating 15 years in aviation, officially commencing business on October 21, 2002. The airport has since opened up Mbombela (Nelspruit) to over three million passengers and serves as the gateway to the Kruger Lowveld.
