Getting there: A nice, easy, relaxing drive from Auckland via Matamata and the beautiful Fitzgerald Glade into Rotorua.
Check-in experience: Fast, easy and very friendly.
Room: 446.
What’s in the neighbourhood? The Sudima is right by the world famous Polynesian Spa and within walking distance of the Government Gardens, the baths, great cafes and restaurants and souvenir shops. Perfect.
Food and drink: The bar in the hotel was fantastic and the staff friendly. An All Blacks game was on, and it was pretty cool to watch our team do what they do so well – while sitting with guests from all over the world. The restaurant was big and catered for all tastes.
Including fussy eaters like me. Breakfast was fantastic.
The bed: Large and comfy, which is all you need.
The view: I looked out to the kitchen’s hangi pit (yes) and the lake. It was a beautiful, very “Kiwi” scene.
What’s so good about this place? It does what it does so well. It caters for large tourist groups but also for those on work trips and I saw a young couple holding hands down the hallway, so it’s obviously a place for a romantic getaway too.
Perfect for: Whatever reason you need to stay in Rotorua. And honestly, do you need a reason? It is such a beautiful part of New Zealand with so much to see and do.
