The Rwanda Development Board, a governmental organisation responsible for promoting the country’s tourism initiatives abroad, recently launched luxury and weekend getaway packages, exclusively tailored for Middle Eastern travellers.

Two ‘Bucket List Rwanda’ packages are on offer, according to African Aerospace. A luxury package includes a two-night stay in a luxury mountain lodge with a one-day Mountain Gorilla trekking tour, as well as helicopter transfers, two nights at a five star hotel in Kigali and a private tour to the city’s Artisan Shopping Centre and Kigali Museum.

The second package includes a three-night long weekend getaway – one night in a four-star resort in the Nyungwe Forest with canopy walk and primates encounter, and two nights at a four-star hotel in Kigali with a private tour to the city’s Artisan Shopping Centre and Kigali Museum.

In the promotional packages an optional tourist experience is the chance to take part in rural community service activities.

The Rwandan national programme, ‘Umuganda’, is held each month on the last Saturday from 08h00 to 11h00. During this time, people from across the country gather and contribute to the building of Rwanda.

The concept is related to solidarity and a communal sense of living, hence citizens from across the country participate in maintenance, from cutting grass to cleaning the streets to trimming bushes along the roads, to even repairing public facilities and building houses for the less fortunate. As a result, Rwanda is one of the cleanest countries in Africa. International tourists are also encouraged to join locals in this community experience, with special tours organised for this purpose.

Chief Tourism Officer of Rwanda Development Board, Belise Kariza, comments: “We understand that the people residing in the Middle East are well travelled. From today it’s our mission to have Rwanda included in their travel bucket lists by offering something new, meaningful and inspirational, coupled with a plethora of cultural, natural, and soft adventure experiences not enjoyed anywhere else.”
