St Hilda Sea Adventures has welcomed a new ship to its fleet, increasing overall capacity to offer 41 scheduled departures in 2018 and 50 departures in 2019.

Originally built for the Norwegian fjords and the high northern latitudes, Seahorse II was acquired by St Hilda Sea Adventures in 2017 and has undergone a first phase refurbishment ahead of the inaugural departure on May 21st.

Perfect for exploring the Gulf stream waters of the west coast of Scotland, the 82-foot long vessel is powerful enough to voyage the islands and lochs of the Inner and Outer Hebrides yet small enough to anchor in remote places.

Described as a ‘a sturdy, go-anywhere, yet comfortable adventurer’ Seahorse II journeys depart from Dunstaffnage Marina, Oban.

The ship, offering adventure cruise holidays accommodates a maximum of eight guests in its traditional style cabins; two singles, two twins and one double.

The deck saloon serves as an indoor dining area whilst the spacious aft deck is ideal for alfresco dining.

An extensive menu includes catch of the day as well as the more traditional fare of haggis, neeps and tatties.

Complimentary wine is served with the evening meal and there is a well-stocked bar offering a choice of whiskies, calvados, port and cognac.

St Hilda also operates a BYO policy for guests who prefer to take their own tipple aboard.

The deck saloon is also an ideal viewing point of the spectacular Hebridean wildlife, as is the high foredeck.

Seahorse II is equipped with a powerful mini crane for launching the ships two dinghies, two sea kayaks and paddle board.

A crew of three including chef and steward is headed by a professional skipper; passionate about boats, sailing, and the natural environment of the islands and sea lochs of the Hebrides and Argyll.

Seahorse II will feature on seven itineraries, with the inaugural cruise Malt Whisky and Scottish Wildlife set to sail this month.

Julie Dubois Marshall, managing director at St Hilda Sea Adventures, said: “We are delighted to have acquired this wee ship allowing us to expand our offering with more departures and a different, back-to-basics cruise experience.

“Our holidays are aimed at those who are seeking soft adventure in a beautiful part of the world.

“With a comfortable, casual atmosphere on board, customers will enjoy the relaxing benefits of local produce, no dress code and no Captains Table.”
