Melia Hotels International will split the Melia Caribe Tropical in the Dominican Republic into two separate resorts: the Melia Punta Cana Beach and Melia Caribe Beach.
Melia Punta Cana Beach will be an adults-only resort, while Melia Caribe Beach will be an all-ages property. The change is expected to be made by December 2018.
The Melia Punta Cana Beach will feature 538 rooms, including 136 suites in The Level, Melia’s premium service concept, which offers guests access to a VIP lounge, exclusive pools and restaurants, free Internet, premium beverages, hors d’oeuvres, and coffee and tea service. A dedicated concierge enables guests to arrange priority reservations for restaurants and spa treatments.
Dining options at the Melia Punta Cana Beach will include casual Mediterranean-style eatery Mosaico, Asian-inspired restaurant Muoi and Italian restaurant Casa Nostra. An international buffet will be on offer at breakfast and lunch venue Rumba.
Sister resort Melia Caribe Beach will have 609 rooms, including 154 suites on The Level, 123 beachside family rooms and 332 premium beachside and deluxe rooms. The family-friendly property will have a waterpark and arcade as well as a variety of dining venues. These include Spanish restaurant Alma, Italian-Mediterranean restaurant Tartufo, international buffet Bazaar, large-group venue Merkado, Japanese restaurant Hokkaido, and O Grille which will offer snacks and picnic-style seating. Riviera and Barefoot are two restaurants available only to The Level guests.
Guests of both Melia Punta Cana Beach and Melia Caribe Beach who are at least age 18 will be able to access restaurants and bars at both properties. Bar venues at the Melia Punta Cana Beach include Jigger, Olives Lobby Bar and Replay Sports Bar, while Melia Caribe Beach offers The Shaker, Sapphire and Elyxr. Both properties feature pool bars.
Concurrently, Melia will unveil a new luxury resort — Grand Reserve at Paradisus Palma Real — in the Dominican Republic this winter.
