The governments of Rwanda and Brazil have signed a bilateral air service agreement (BASA), opening up the prospect of commercial flights between the two countries.

RwandAir has already announced plans to fly to Brazil, saying it will be a priority in its expansion plans. CEO, Yvonne Manzi Makolo, said: “The signing of this BASA is important because we can now concretely put Brazil in our plan for future expansion. If there is one country, we would like to start with entering South America, it is definitely Brazil.” She did not say, however, when the airline expected to start operating the flights.

Currently, Rwanda has 91 bilateral Air service Agreements with countries within and outside the African continent. It also recently signed a BASA with the Philippines.
