Passenger volume through six major Thai airports soared 13.7 percent in the first quarter of 2016 to hit a record high of 32.3 million people.
According to The Bangkok Post, four of the six airports saw a double digit growth in combined passenger traffic, with the highest growth rate recorded in Bangkok’s Don Mueang.
Low-cost carriers increased their passenger volume by approximately 20 percent, and represented about 42 percent of overall passenger traffic.
The rise in passenger volume is accompanied by a 9.5 percent increase in aircraft movement.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports reports that international tourist arrivals to Thailand reached more than nine million in the year’s first quarter.
Of that number, it was found that China supplied more than 2.6 million visitors, up 31 percent from the previous quarter.
In a separate study by Hotels.com, the number of Indians who visited Thailand in 2015 reached a record 1.07 million, a rise of 15 percent from the year before.
