A defining feature of the Amadeus Provence is its infinity pool.

Amadeus River Cruises christened the 140-passenger Amadeus Provence in Vienne in southeastern France last week, bringing to 14 the number of vessels in the company’s fleet.

The company said it will build an additional river cruise ship in Europe for 2018.

The 361-foot Provence has 62 staterooms and eight suites, ranging from 172 to 284 square feet in size. A defining feature of the Amadeus Provence’s public areas is its infinity pool. The vessel also includes a bar, restaurant, lounge, glass-enclosed River Terrace, sun deck with lounge chairs, giant chess board and shuffleboard, gym, hair salon, massage room, gift shop and elevator.

Passengers have access to laundry service, complimentary bicycles and WiFi.

The Amadeus Provence was built at the De Hoop shipyard in the Netherlands, which incorporated a new technology, according to the yard. It has a “new air lubrication [system] … that involves tiny air bubbles being blown beneath the vessel to lower the resistance of the ship in the water and therefore save fuel,” said De Hoop president Patrick Janseens in a statement.

Added Marcus Leskovar, Amadeus River Cruises’ executive vice president, “We are operating cruises in our own backyard; being environmentally responsible is very important to us.”

The Amadeus Provence will sail the Rhone and Saone rivers in the south of France.

Amadeus River Cruises is the North American arm of Austrian company Luftner Cruises.
