Flights are resuming at British Airways as the carrier battles to recover from a serious computer failure on Saturday.

The airline warned passengers to expect further delays and cancellations.

All flights from Gatwick and Heathrow airports in London were cancelled yesterday, with thousands of passengers affected.

Many of those who did travel had to do so without luggage.

British Airways said in a statement it would refund reasonable costs to passengers.

The incident comes at a bad time for the airline, with disruption expected to continue throughout the bank holiday.

It is thought the IT breakdown was caused by a power supply issue to its systems.

The company said there was no evidence the failure was the result of a cyber-attack.

Other airlines flying in and out of the UK were unaffected.
