The Democratic Republic of the Congo has lifted a moratorium that barred Brussels Airlines from flying daily from Brussels to Kinshasa.
In February 2018, the Congo Civil Aviation Authority barred the airline from flying daily, however on February 22 this year, the CAA said it would now allow Brussels Airlines to gradually reinstate its daily flights from Brussels to Kinshasa. The airline said it would be able to re-introduce the service progressively in order to offer a daily flight between the two countries as quickly as possible.
Wencke Lemmes, Brussels Airlines spokesperson, told the Belga News Agency that the carrier would resume the daily flights as quickly as possible. She said long-haul aircraft were already scheduled to operate other flights, and seats were already reserved. The process would take time and could not be done from one day to the next, she added.
Brussels Airlines is Belgium’s national airline, connecting the city to more than 100 destinations, of which 23 are in Africa – the continent Brussels Airlines considers its second home.
Brussels Airlines is the second airline to up frequencies to the DRC following Turkish Airlines which said it would increase frequency to Kinshasa from next month.
