Fortis Hotels, which converted to the Protea Hotel brand in 1993, launched six hotels under its own brand last week.

Fortis Hotels will now operate the properties independently of the Protea Hotel and Marriott Group, after signing a management contract with the Boulevard Hotels Group. Staff of both the Boulevard Group and Fortis Hotels own 40% of the equity of their respective companies, with Fortis CEO, Grant Mclachlan, remaining as the major shareholder.

Fortis Hotel Capital in the Pretoria CBD is close to the Pretoria Gautrain Station. It has 104 en-suite rooms, five en-suite deluxe rooms – three of which have access to the patio – and a Jacuzzi suite, with a separate lounge area and Jacuzzi bath and a separate shower. There are six conference and event venues that can accommodate up to 250 delegates. Facilities include a themed pub, a dining area and a 12m pool.

Fortis Hotel Manor in Hatfield, Pretoria, has 42 deluxe rooms, 16 standard rooms, as well as 29 one- and two-bedroom apartments. It has eight conference venues with three walk-out rooms, accommodating 300 delegates.

The hotel is within walking distance of the Hatfield Gautrain Station, the University of Pretoria, and Loftus Versveld, 5km from the CBD and a 45-minute drive from OR Tambo International Airport.

Four of the newly branded hotels are in Mpumalanga – Fortis Hotel Witbank, and Fortis Hotel Highveld, are both in Emalahleni; Fortis Hotel Malaga is in Waterval Boven; and Fortis Hotel Evander is in Secunda.

Fortis will continue to franchise with the Protea and Marriott Group at the Protel Hotel by Marriott Rustenburg Hunters Rest.
