Carnival Cruise Line said the upcoming Carnival Horizon will be the first to have a Dr. Seuss-themed water park and slides.
Located on Deck 12, Dr. Seuss WaterWorks will have two different slides and a kiddie splash zone with dozens of water spray toys.
The larger of the two slides, The Cat in the Hat slide, will be a 450-foot-long enclosed raft slide with tubing that alternates between translucent red and opaque white. The entrance will resemble a giant-sized version of the cat’s trademark floppy stovepipe hat.
A second slide, the 213-foot Fun Things slide will be an enclosed body slide with whimsical polka dots and special lighting effects named after the Thing 1 and Thing 2 creatures from “The Cat in the Hat.”
“We think this is going to be a real fun, new, different feature,” CCL president Christine Duffy said.
The highlight of the splash area will be a 150-gallon tipping bucket in the shape of the cat’s hat. On clear partitions surrounding the park there will sayings from Seuss stories and the entrances will feature larger than life images of Seuss characters, such as The Grinch with a surfboard tucked under his arm.
The water park extends the partnership Carnival launched in 2013 with Dr.Seuss Enterprises, which includes parades, a Green Eggs & Ham breakfast and on some ships, including Horizon, a library/play area called Bookville.
The 3,934-passenger Horizon, a sister of the Carnival Vista delivered last year, arrives in April 2018.
