I’ve been to Colombia’s capital city several times, for both work and pleasure. It’s a sophisticated city, with lots to do. I’ve stayed at both hotels in Bogota and apartment rentals, and sincerely enjoyed both experiences. The decision on whether to stay at an Airbnb or a hotel, for me, is based on several factors.
During my most recent visit to Bogota, I opted for Airbnb. I wanted the extra space, central location and cheaper price that Airbnb could give me. I rented a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in Chapinero, a neighborhood that’s not quite upscale but is centrally located and just happens to be the gayest district in Colombia’s capital. This is a review of my experience.
THE AMBIANCE: I chose this Bogota apartment rental based on several factors: location, price and style. The price is inarguably attractive (you could never rent a two-bedroom suite in a hotel for this price), and I wanted to be in a central location, in a safe and walkable neighborhood, and reasonably priced with lots of natural light. This checked all of those boxes.
To be honest, the building itself is nothing special; a modern high-rise with no specific architectural charm. But it’s clean, well maintained and has a 24-hour doorman service. The apartment itself is cute, bright and fresh, with bright colors and lots of natural light. The kitchen is well equipped and modern and there’s even a washing machine for clothes.
APARTMENT FEATURES: I especially liked the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room and larger bedroom; the living room also has a balcony that allows you to look out on the Parque de los Hippies. The larger bedroom has floor to ceiling windows too, as well as a large closet and king-size bed and TV (no TV in the living room) and an ensuite bathroom with shower. The second full bathroom is in the outside hall, and is the same size. There’s also a nice little office nook with desk for working. The Second bedroom has two single beds and a view toward the back of the building.
BEST FOR: This Bogota Airbnb apartment rental is great for budget-conscious travelers who want lots of space in a central, walkable location, as well as families traveling together (the second bedroom would be perfect for children), groups of friends, and LGBTQ travelers looking for a great spot within walking distance of most of the city’s nightlife.
