Israeli carrier, Israir Airlines, is operating charter flights using its Airbus A320 to Kigali from Tel Aviv.
The maiden flight landed at Kigali International Airport on November 26 with 80 tourists, Israel’s Ambassador to Rwanda, Ron Adam, confirmed in a tweet.
Israir will offer flights from Tel Aviv every Thursday until January 7 and Israelis will be able to visit Rwanda and be exempt from quarantine on their return to Israel.
In August, the government of Israel added Rwanda to its list of green countries, a move that means Israelis are exempt from a 14-day quarantine upon returning home.
Charter airline, Sun D’Or, a subsidiary of El Al, is also eyeing the route and plans to start flights next month. CEO Yair Berrebi told Israeli media: “We are ready to provide quality service in the shadow of the coronavirus.”
Rwanda announced the reopening of tourism activities from June 17, including primate trekking within Rwanda’s national parks, in line with enhanced COVID-19 prevention measures.
The resumption of international travel for visitors arriving by charter flight also started on June 17 and on scheduled commercial flights from August 1.
