Summer school holidays are soon upon us and nothing is cooler than beating the heat at Wet’n’Wild on the Gold Coast.
With nearly perfect weather year-round on the Gold Coast, cooling off is best done while squealing your way down a waterslide, jumping waves at the wave pool or simply relaxing at a dive-in movie.
Whether you are a first-time visitor or a regular Wet’n’Wilder, here are some things to consider to make your day splashtacular.
TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Just like judging when to jump over or under the waves in the wave pool, timing is everything when visiting Wet’n’Wild. Of course, school holidays, public holidays and weekends are when the park is most busy, so consider going mid-week or outside of school holidays.
Wet’n’Wild is open every day of the year except Anzac Day and Christmas Day and opening and closing times are seasonal. From 1st November – 26th December 2018 the park is open every day from 10am – 5pm.
During the peak period of 27th December 2018 – 9th January 2019 the park opens earlier at 9am – 7pm with attractions operating from 9:30am – 6:30pm.
EARLY BIRD GETS THE BEST SPOT
Try and arrive as early as possible to secure a good spot to set up camp. There are many tables and chairs around the park and shady areas to escape the heat. Don’t be a seat hog and only take the space you need. This can be your base if anyone gets lost too.
You can pre-book select seating in one of the Leisure Lounges (to the right of the Wave Pool in a gated and shaded area) from $50, one of the Wave Pool Cabanas (situated in the prime position by the iconic Giant Wave Pool) from $170, or the Wet’n’Wild Junior Cabanas (located in the heart of Wet’n’Wild Junior) from $170 also.
DON’T OVER PACK
You can forget all the bells and whistles you think you need and pack light for Wet’n’Wild. There is no need for proper shoes, just a pair of flip flops, jandals, thongs, pluggers, whatever you choose to call them, towel, swimmers and clothes to change into. The more you take, the more you need to carry and look after so keep it simple.
Lockers are available just inside the entrance to the park. With electronic access, you can come and go as many times as you like. Standard lockers are $10/day while the larger luggage lockers are $20/day.
GET ORIENTATED
Grab a map when you arrive and work out your plan of attack on the day. There are four precincts – Giant Wave Pool, Junior Wet’n’Wild, Calypso Beach and Whirlpool Springs, with 15 attractions so you won’t want to miss a thing.
Thrill levels include mild, moderate and max, with height restrictions on the thrill rides. There is plenty to offer kids of all ages (yes including the adult kids) and lifeguards are on watch all over the park to ensure safety.
Don’t worry if you lose your map as all areas are well marked and signposted and maps are found around the park.
For the thrill seekers, try the Exclusive Experience, the Skycoaster. First, you will be strapped into a harness and then raised 50 metres off the ground. You’ll need the guts to pull your own ripcord before plummeting face first towards the ground. Reach speeds of up to 60km/hr as you’re catapulted over the Giant Wave Pool!
FEEDING THE TRIBE
Pre-plan your lunch and snacks throughout the day by purchasing a Hunger Buster online before you arrive. For just $19.99 for a Single Pack Hunger Buster (one snack and one meal) or $99.99 for a 10 Pack Hunger Buster (10 snacks and 10 meals), you can enjoy a variety of delicious snacks and meals at selected outlets at Warner Bros. Movie World, Sea World or Wet’n’Wild Gold Coast. Keep hydrated by purchasing the bottomless sipper cup with free refills during the day
Other tasty options inside the park include Bombora Burger Bar, Frozen Coke Stand, Twisted DIY Soft Serve, Village Bean Coffee House, Pizza Shack and Tropical Treats.
You can also self-cater at Wet’n’Wild with a packed lunch. Throw some snags on the barbecues (coin operated) and then retreat to a shady spot to enjoy. No glassware or alcohol is allowed into the park so leave these at home.
BEST PRICED TICKETS
It’s best to book in advance online and save on prices direct at the gate. There are so many options for the Village Roadshow group of theme parks, it really is worth checking them out to find the best option. Choose from a 1-day pass for Wet’n’Wild, a yearly pass with unlimited entry, a multi-park pass and much more.
Discounts can often be found when booking through your Royal Automobile Club (e.g. RACQ) through your state or keep an eye out for Shop-a-Docket promotions.
