As the Minister has emphasised on various platforms, we are busy developing a recovery strategy for the sector and that requires multi-stakeholder engagement. It must be noted that developing a strategy is not an event, it is a process.

We have engaged in this inclusive process so that the product can be representative of the sector as a whole, not an imposition from either government or any of the tourism subsectors to the rest of the sector.

It would, therefore, be disingenuous for the DA to suggest that the Minister and the department have been sitting on our laurels and not leading as required of government, the process of short-term relief, mid-term recovery and long-term sustainability of the sector.

We will unveil the strategy to the public as soon as it is completed. The main aim is to engage the tourism sector in order to develop a response that is measured and consistent, proportionate to the public health threat and based on local risk assessment, involving every part of the tourism value chain.
