Uber has been in the news a lot lately. Last week, the ridesharing service announced that it was going to start flat $5 UberPool rides in New York City during commuter hours, and the week before, it announced that it was celebrating its five-year anniversary in the city. However, Uber riders were also disappointed to learn that last week the service was shutting down operations in Austin. But the latest news from Uber appeals to a larger audience — effective immediately, the company’s making it easier to pay for rides for your family and friends.

You can now create a Family Profile on Uber.

Here’s how to set it up as the Family Profile organizer:

  • Go to Menu and choose Settings
  • Scroll down to “Add a Family Profile”
  • Select the contacts you want to add to your family profile
  • When the family profile rider accepts the invitation, they can begin requesting rides from their phone and using the family profile as their payment method
  • You’ll automatically receive a receipt from every ride the family profile rider takes.

Note that although it’s called the Family Profile feature, it isn’t limited to family. You can add family, friends, coworkers and others to your Family Profile, just remember that you’re the one paying the bill. Because you’ll presumably be getting more charges from Uber with a Family Profile, make sure you have a synced card that will help you maximize your point and mileage accrual on every ride, such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred or the Citi ThankYou Premier.
