FORT LAUDERDALE — Norwegian Cruise Line unveiled a rendering of a new class of ship it plans to build starting in 2022.
No other details were released at a Norwegian news conference at the Seatrade Cruise Global convention that mostly covered other topics.
The rendering shows a ship with some of the same characteristics as the upcoming MSC Seaside, such as a funnel moved forward to the middle of the ship, extensive open deck space and a narrowing of the ship profile toward the aft.
Norwegian has contracted for four of the 3,300-passenger vessels from Fincantieri at a price of $800 million each.
“The addition of these vessels will allow us to substitute newer, state-of-the-art vessels with a richer stateroom mix in premium destinations, which in turn will allow us to deploy existing vessels to domestic or international homeports where we currently do not have a presence,” Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Frank Del Rio said to Wall Street analysts on Feb. 22.
