A luxury lodge in the Hawkes Bay has been named the best resort in Australasia – and one of the best in the world – by CN Traveler.
The travel magazine’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards name the best in luxury travel around the world and is voted on by nearly half a million readers.
The Farm at Cape Kidnappers was named at number 20 in its award for the best resorts in the world, as well as being named the top resort in Australasia. It was the only New Zealand property to make the international list.
The exlusive retreat, which features a dramatic clifftop golf course designed by legendary golf architect Tom Doak, was deemed to be “well above par” by CN Traveler readers.
“This golfers’ magnet provides plenty for those who think golf a good walk spoiled. A five-mile road winds through farmland and bush to the property, on a 6000-acre peninsula abutting the Pacific, and from the moment of arrival every whim is catered to,” CN Traveler wrote.
“The main lodge has soaring ceilings and rustic artifacts such as old farm tools, and while the 24 suites and a cottage are broadly based on farm dwellings, bathrooms have underfloor heating; the gym, a personal trainer; and the wine cellar, master tastings.
Diversions beyond golf include ATVs and guided nature tours.”
The resort is owned by Robertson Lodges, who also had two of its other properties named in the list of the best in Australasia. Matakauri Lodge in Queenstown was named the number 13 resort in the region and The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs in Matauri Bay was the number 19 pick.
“We are thrilled that all three Robertson Lodges have been recognised in the elite Readers’ Choice Awards and are especially honoured to see The Farm at Cape Kidnappers voted number one” Jay Robertson, CEO of Robertson Lodges said. “Each of our lodges are unique and situated on some of the most pristine landscapes in New Zealand, while our staff work tirelessly to provide each guest with an unforgettable experience.”
One other New Zealand lodge was named the best resorts in Australasia, with Aro Hā Wellness Retreat in Glenorchy listed at number 6.
