Virgin Voyages’ 2,700-passenger Scarlet Lady, due in a little over a year, gained its funnel recently, when the block was hoisted into place at Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard in Genoa, Italy.

The massive funnel block was moved into place via cranes and settled into position atop the 110,000-ton vessel.

Virgin’s first ship, the Scarlet Lady will be the prototype for at least three that are under development at Fincantieri.

The Scarlet Lady is due in January 2020, with the other ships scheduled for 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The name Scarlet Lady was inspired by the name of one of the first jetliners to fly for sister company Virgin Atlantic.
