With just three-plus months before its first ship’s maiden cruise, Virgin Voyages is trying to spur sales by increasing travel agent commissions to as high as 16%.

Advisors — called “first mates” by Virgin Voyages — already could earn 10% with no NCFs (non-commissionable fares). Now they can get an additional 3% on cruises booked from now until the end of 2020. Advisors get an extra 3% on top of that if they book a cruise that departs in April or May.

Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady departs Miami on its maiden cruise on April 1. Cabins are still available for the maiden cruise according to Virgin Voyages’ website.

“We see our first mates as a true extension of our team and recognize their commitment to our brand as valued partners,” Virgin Voyages president and CEO Tom McAlpin said in a statement. “As Scarlet Lady prepares for her maiden voyage in April, we know our first mates will play a pivotal role in making her inaugural year a success, and we wanted to find more ways to show our unwavering appreciation.”

The Scarlet Lady is scheduled to sail mainly four- and five-day cruises from Miami to the Caribbean year-round. The line’s second ship, Valiant Lady, is expected to sail the Mediterranean from May 2021.
