The number of UK tourists visiting Geneva last year rose 2.9 per cent, in comparison to the same period in 2015, official figures showed.

Tourism, both business and leisure, is an important economic driver for Geneva and these figures demonstrate the popularity of Geneva with the UK market.

Growth has outperformed expectation for 2016, in spite of the fall of the value of sterling.

The number of tourists from the UK accounts for the biggest visiting market out of all European inbound visitors to the city, illustrating the strength of the UK market.

The success in tourism can be specifically attributed to the expanding calendar of exciting activities – including the International Motor Show, Geneva Marathon and SIHH watch festival – as well as popularity of museum’s and exhibitions such as the Mamco and Musée international de la Réforme.

In addition, it is due to an increase in visitors opting for ski stop-off destination as well as the city winning Europe’s Leading City Break Destination in the World Travel Awards for 2015 and 2016.
