AIRPORTS COUNCIL INTERNATIONAL has revealed a preliminary list of the world’s busiest airports, with Beijing’s Capital International Airport taking second place.
According to the report based on a study of 1,144 airports worldwide, Beijing saw just under 90 million passengers in 2015 while Dubai International Airport recorded a 10 percent spike from 2014 to hit 78 million passengers. Taking top spot is Atlanta’s Hartfield-Jackson with more than 100 million passengers in 2015.
In terms of volume of international passengers, Dubai International Airport takes top spot in the world, followed by London’s Heathrow. Dubai has made huge gains after boosting capacity and becoming an important stopover point for flights between east and west.
Asia’s presence in the top 10 rankings is evident with Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at number five and Hong Kong International Airport at number eight.

Being a busy airport doesn’t necessarily make it the best. Based on a separate list of the world’s best airports released by Skytrax last month, Singapore’s Changi Airport was awarded the world’s best title for the fourth year in a row. Changi is known to provide state-of-the-art amenities and a seamless check-in experience.
In the same list, Asian airports make a good impression with South Korea’s Incheon International Airport, Tokyo’s Haneda, Hong Kong International Airport, Nagoya’s Central Japan International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Doha’s Hamad International Airport featuring in the top 10.
