Anguilla’s power company ANGLEC delivered on its slogan of “Lights before Christmas” as electrical power was restored across Anguilla last week, just in time for the holiday season, and three months after the lights went out from Hurricane Irma in September.
Close to 600 guestrooms are available, comprised of a selection of villas, small hotels and holiday apartment rentals. Among the properties open for the winter season are the CeBlue Resort in Crocus Hill; Larimar Beach Club, Frangipani Beach Resort and Meads Bay Villas on Meads Bay; Serenity Cottages and Fountain Residences on Shoal Bay; and Paradise Cove Resort in The Cove.
The nine-suite Quintessence Hotel, a new addition to Anguilla’s tourism product, debuts in Long Bay on Jan. 1. Its restaurant, Julians, opened earlier this month.
An additional 540 rooms are slated to come on stream by April.
Many island restaurants and beach bars are open for the season, including Tasty’s, Veya, Straw Hat, DaVida’s on Crocus Bay, Tokyo Bay, Elvis’s, Johnno’s, Falcon’s Nest and Hibernia.
Airlift to Anguilla is steadily improving. Seaborne now flies five days a week from San Juan, Thursdays through Mondays, providing connections for American, Delta, JetBlue, United and Southwest flights into San Juan.
JetBlue launches daily service from New York JFK to St. Maarten on Jan. 5, up from the current twice-weekly flights. Delta has daily service from Atlanta and American flies daily out of Miami.
Service from additional gateways will come on stream in the second quarter of 2018.
From St. Maarten, Anguilla passengers have daily ferry services on Calypso Charters, Funtime Charters, GB Express and Another Link from Simpson Bay, a five-minute cab ride from Princess Juliana airport.
The public ferry departs eight times a day in both directions from Marigot Bay in French St. Martin to Anguilla.
Excursions in Anguilla include day trips to St. Barts on Calypso Charters; dive trips on Shoal Bay Scuba; and tours to Magic City, a family facility. In addition, Anguilla Watersports resumed operations earlier this month with paddle boarding, glass bottom boat rides and kite surfing.
The 18-hole golf course at CuisinArt Golf Resort & Spa has reopened, and the resort’s Venus Spa will reopen in January. The resort itself has targeted an April reopening date.
The Anguilla Tennis Academy offers lessons and play for kids and adults on six newly renovated courts.
