A RECENT study from Hotels.com revealed that most Indian tourists favor Thailand as their holiday destination of choice.

Based on a report by Bangkok Post, the number of Indians who visited Thailand in 2015 reached a record 1.07 million, a rise of 15 percent from the year before, according to Thai Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul.

It was noted that India had a total of 13 long weekends last year, which resulted in Indians booking trips to short-haul destinations. The Indian rupee also stretches far in Thailand, with a baht worth approximately 1.9 rupees.

In the same study, Dubai, Singapore, London and New York took second, third, fourth and fifth places respectively.

The results were gathered from the latest Hotel Price Index (HPI) and are based on bookings on Hotels.com. The hotel booking site represents 260,000 hotels in more than 60 countries.

In a separate study by Hotels.com, average prices per night for a hotel in Thailand fell 8 percent in 2015 from the year before due to a lower inflation rate and a drop in oil prices.
