IHG has been known to offer 100% bonuses on points purchases on a semi-regular basis, and the program even sold points for just 0.565 cents each as part of last month’s Daily Getaways promotion. You can also regularly purchase points directly from IHG for 0.6 cents each when booking a Points + Cash stay, so in theory this current offer isn’t all that exciting. That said, if you’re looking to boost your balance for a specific upcoming stay, you might as well save some money in the process.

Through June 3, you’ll earn a 100% bonus on any number of points (in 1,000-point increments), but note that the cost per point varies depending on how many you purchase. Here’s how it breaks down:

Here’s how to take advantage of the promotion:

  1. Visit IHG’s Buy Points link.
  2. Enter your information, select the number of points you want to purchase and click Continue.
  3. Select the number of points you want to purchase and click Continue.
  4. Enter your credit card information and billing address and click Continue.
  5. Confirm the details, check the box to agree to the Terms and Conditions and click Buy Now.

Keep in mind that the usual restrictions for purchasing IHG Rewards points apply to these transactions, including:

  • You must have a positive account balance and have been active in the program within the last 30 days.
  • You can purchase points in increments of 1,000 points up to a maximum of 60,000 points per transaction/calendar year (you can also receive an additional 60,000 points per calendar year).
  • The points will post within 24-48 hours and do not count toward earning elite status.

To maximize this promotion, you’ll need to purchase 60,000 points for $690, which will net you a total of 120,000 points. That’s enough for two nights at a top-tier hotel, such as the InterContinental Hong Kong (pictured up top). Rooms at that property typically go for $225 and up per night (including tax), so on dates with less expensive rates, you’ll actually come out ahead by paying cash — even when purchasing points under the current promo. The rate can climb above $1,000 per night on New Year’s Eve, however, so if you’re able to score a redemption during a peak period, it could make much more sense to redeem purchased points.

You can also boost your balance with the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card, which is currently offering 70,000 bonus points after you spend $2,000 in the first three months.
