TPG reader Brian sent me a message on Facebook to ask about JetBlue Mosaic benefits:

Both the JetBlue Plus Card and the JetBlue Business Card offer cardholders the opportunity to earn Mosaic elite status by spending $50,000 on the card annually. The landing page for each card specifies that you’ll enjoy “all TrueBlue Mosaic benefits” after meeting the spending requirements. One could reasonably assume that all benefits includes the 15,000 bonus points members normally receive upon qualifying, but unfortunately, that’s not the case.

Despite what’s being advertised, those bonus points are reserved for TrueBlue members who earn status by flying. The Mosaic terms and conditions address this unambiguously:

That means you won’t get the bonus points if you earn Mosaic through another channel, such as a status challenge or spending on a co-branded card. However, JetBlue representatives confirmed that all other Mosaic benefits qualify, so you will get a second free checked bag, complimentary alcoholic beverages and more.

Mosaic status is valuable, but there are more lucrative spending bonuses out there.

With or without the extra 15,000 points, I think $50,000 is a lot to spend for Mosaic status. The new JetBlue cards are great for JetBlue purchases, and they offer two points per dollar in a few other categories, but I wouldn’t recommend them for everyday spending. It’s important to maximize your return on each dollar, so I’d rather put that $50,000 on a card that earns more valuable points, or one that offers a more lucrative spending bonus.
