Danish leisure carrier Primera Air plans to become the next low-cost carrier to enter the transatlantic market.
Beginning April 19, Primera will fly daily from Newark to London Stansted. Daily flights from Newark to Paris de Gaulle and Birmingham, England, begin May 18.
Primera will also fly four times per week from each of those European cites to Boston. London-Boston flights begin on May 18, Paris-Boston on June 21 and Birmingham-Boston on June 22.
Flights are advertised on the Primera website for as little as $99 one way, but ancillary costs will be high. The checked-bag fee is $45 each way, advance seat assignments will cost no less than $45 and standard meals will cost $40.
Primera will fly the routes with new narrowbody AirbusA321neo aircraft.
Additional transatlantic routes are to be announced by the end of the summer, the carrier said.
Founded in 2003 as an Iceland-based charter carrier named JetX, the carrier was rebranded as Primera in 2008. Primera began offering scheduled flights between Scandinavia and European leisure destinations in 2013. It currently has fleet of nine aircraft and flies commercial and charter flights to 97 destinations, according to its website.
Primera will join Norwegian, Wow, IAG’s Level and Lufthansa’s Eurowings, among others, in the Europe-U.S. low-cost marketplace.
Its transatlantic flights will offer economy and premium economy cabins. Wi-Fi will be available for a fee.
