The nascent domestic airline to be launched by JetBlue founder David Neeleman now has a real name: Breeze Airways.
The airline plans to launch sometime this year.
Breeze had been known by the placeholder name Moxy since plans for its creation were unveiled in summer 2018. The airline is currently applying for its operating certificate with the FAA and Department of Transportation.
Breeze’s initial routes will connect mid-sized city pairs that have lost service due to industry consolidation. Neeleman is promising that the carrier will make use of technological innovations that will improve the flying experience while saving travelers time and money.
“Twenty years ago, we brought humanity back to the airline industry with JetBlue,” he said in a prepared statement. “Today, we’re excited to introduce plans for ‘the world’s nicest airline.’”
Neeleman also founded Utah-based Morris Air, Canada’s WestJet and Brazil’s Azul, where he remains board chairman.
Breeze has 60 Airbus A220-300s on order, with deliveries set to begin next year. The company has also leased 30 Embraer E195 aircraft from Azul.
