Grande Roche Hotel in Paarl in the Western Cape is due to be refurbished after being acquired by entrepreneurs, Hansie and Theresa Britz.

The hotel will close during June when the first phase of the renovation begins. Work will include the establishment of a new restaurant and bar and the revamp of several rooms.

TV celebrity chef, Pete Goffe-Wood, will be chef-patron of the new restaurant, Viande. All other food and beverage operations will also fall under Goffe-Wood’s supervision, including special events, weddings and conferences.

“Viande will be country-style with a nose-to-tail menu,” say Goffe-Wood, with special attention being paid to local produce and an existing herb garden expanded with vegetables. Viande will be open for breakfast, lunch and supper with Sunday brunch on the cards too.

The enlarged restaurant will accommodate 90 guests and occupy the entire floor of the hotel’s main building.

Other additions are scheduled for later phases, including a luxury spa.
