You’ve boarded your flight and you spot a family walking towards you. There are small children. You cross your fingers and hope they walk to the back of the plane, but it isn’t to be. They sit right behind you.

As soon as the parents have shepherded their children into their seats, one of the kids starts wailing and kicking the back of your seat. It is going to be a long flight.

Sound familiar?

There are many things you can do in this situation: ask the parents to intervene (be warned: this could very quickly turn sour); ask the flight attendant if you can move seats; buy some noise cancelling headphones and tune out.

Would you dare to actually ask the child to be quiet? Would you offer to help the parents? What methods have you tried and tested?
