Hurtigruten has named former Amazon executive John Downey as president for the Americas region, effective March 20.

Downey replaces William Harber, who had held the role since 2017. Downey was most recently general manager for Amazon Go, leading the team that introduced the Amazon Meal Kits product line. Prior to that he worked in Motorola’s Mobile Devices division.

Based in Seattle, Downey will be responsible for Hurtigruten’s commercial growth strategy and driving sales and profitability across the U.S., Canada, and South America and with increasing brand awareness and market share.

Hurtigruten also said he will “work to broaden and deepen key travel agent relationships and open new channels for growth.”
