Africa will host the seventh Biennial International Tourism Studies (ITSA) Conference for the first time this year, from August 6 to 10.
The University of South Africa will host the conference – previously hosted by Asia, Europe and Australia – and expects more than 300 delegates from around the world to attend.
The conference has already received support from the South African National Convention Bureau, Gauteng Tourism Authority and the City of Tshwane, and is an ideal opportunity for scholars from across Africa to engage and interact with tourism delegates from across the world, with the aim of generating more co-operation and networking amongst scholars.
The theme of the conference is ‘Collaboration and Co-creation Opportunities in Tourism’, and is expected to see hospitality academia, students and industry stakeholders among the target audience, when the conference is held at the CSIR International Convention Centre.
A range of topics will be covered across the key themes, which include:
- Tourism cities and urban tourism
- The Brazilian, Russian, Indian, Chinese and South African (BRICS) outbound tourism market
- Tourism policy, planning and governance
- The Blue Ocean economy and tourism
- Teaching and learning in tourism and hospitality
- Wildlife tourism, conservation and nature-based tourism products
The conference coincides with the second International Tourism Educators South Africa – another first for higher learning institutions in SA that offer programmes in tourism and hospitality.
