The international tourists spent more in Brazil in May, comparing to the homologous period of 2017, reports the Ministry of Tourism. The Brazilian expenditure abroad also increased during this month.

In May, there was a 2.3% increase of the amount of money international tourists spent in Brazil, which is a total of US$ 429 million compared to the US$ 419 million in 2017. Between January and May of the current year, the cumulative total has already reached US$ 2.86 billion, 6.71% higher than the sum of the homologous period of 2017.

The Brazilian expenditure abroad also increased: 7.95% in May and 10.83% in the yearly accumulate. According to the Central Bank, the exchange expenditure grew from US$ 7.29 billion to $8 billion from January to May, compared to the same months last year.

“We have worked strongly to steadily increase the presence of foreign tourists in Brazilian territory and these numbers show that we are on the right track, and that initiatives like visa facilitation for Americans, Canadians, Australians and Japanese were right”, said the Minister of Tourism, Vinicius Lummertz.
