Brand South Africa and the United Nations will host a six-month exhibit, ‘The Role of the United Nations in the Struggle for Freedom in South Africa’, at the Apartheid Museum from October 19, 2017 to April 30, 2018.

The exhibit will highlight the contribution the UN made to the struggle for freedom in South Africa, which was one of the 51 founding members of the UN in 1945.

Since then, the global organisation has grown to 193 member states. In South Africa, the UN is committed to enhancing the performance and impact of the UN system in contributing to the development of the country.

Beyond educating South Africans and visitors about the role the UN played in the fight against apartheid, the audio-visual exhibit will travel to other countries.

Brand South Africa General Manager, Mpumi Mabuza, says: “It is imperative that South Africans are reminded that the country’s freedom is attributed to many other African nations whose role in supporting South Africa through its dark days led towards its liberation. We look forward to the exhibition and call on all citizens to come, share and engage.”
