Fly Tristar has increased frequencies between Nairobi’s Wilson International Airport and other key destinations in the country. The airline, established earlier this year, confirmed to Tourism Update that it was launching additional flights to and from Nairobi for the peak season, starting August 8.

A key route will be Nairobi-Mombasa, to which the airline is adding six flights in August. Other destinations include the popular beach resort regions of Malindi and Diani Chiale.

According to Business Daily, Fly Tristar’s Commercial Director, Ken Wadhwa said: “Mombasa is a gateway town. We have cruise ships, international airlines like Condor and Ethiopian Airlines. We are here to complement them.”

The airline is focusing on creating affordable travel in the region with Wadhwa adding: “Our motivation is to demystify air travel. People perceive it as an extremely expensive affair but we guarantee seats at Ksh 4 333 (€37) one way.” He said Tristar’s flights were only Ksh 1 000 (€8) more than a first-class standard gauge rail ticket on the Madaraka Express – which takes four hours more to reach Nairobi than a flight.

Wadhwa also said: “Our target isn’t just for this peak season. We are in it for the long haul.”

All new flights will be on a Fokker 50, seating 50 passengers and are open for booking immediately. The new flights are as follows:

August 8, 9 and 23: Ukunda to Nairobi via Mombasa, departing 11h40, stopping Mombasa at 12h00, arriving Nairobi at 13h00.

August 13: Mombasa to Nairobi, departing at 14h40 and 16h40, arriving 15h50 and 17h50 respectively.

August 27: Nairobi to Malindi, departing 07h00 and arriving 08h10. Keekorok to Nairobi, departing 10h00, arriving 10h40.

August 26: Nairobi to Keekorok, departing 10h00, arriving 10h40.
