The Loen Skylift, a new cable car in Loen, Norway, will open this month.

Loen is a village located in the Nordfjord region, about 120 miles northeast of Bergen and just under 200 miles northwest of Oslo.

Billed as the world’s steepest aerial ropeway, the Skylift will carry visitors more than 3,300 feet up to Mount Hoven in about five minutes, providing panoramic views of the fjords.

Loen Skylift, which will operate year-round, is expected to transport more than 40,000 visitors this year alone.

The lift also provides easy access to several miles of hiking trails, climbing routes, terrain for winter sports and fine dining at the top of Mount Hoven.

Kristian Jorgensen, director of Fjord Norway predicts the lift will become a popular draw for visitors, thanks to views of the fjords, surrounding mountains and the Jostedalsbreen Glacier.

Queen Sonja, who along with King Harald is celebrating her 80th birthday this year, will officially open the Skylift on May 20.
