Level, a low-cost transatlantic airline owned by International Airlines Group (IAG), commenced service Thursday with a flight from Barcelona to Los Angeles.

The flight was scheduled to depart Barcelona at 3:40 p.m. local time.

The carrier is launching operations with flights from Barcelona to Los Angeles, Oakland, Buenos Aires and Punta Cana.

Flights are operated on Airbus A330s configured with just two classes; economy and premium economy. Economy passengers pay extra for checked bags, meals, seat selection and WiFi.

In launching Level, IAG is vying to compete with Norwegian Air and other growing transatlantic low-cost carriers. IAG also owns British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling.
