Some 59 people are now thought to have been killed in a mass shooting in Las Vegas.

A further 500 were injured during the incident at the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the famous Las Vegas Strip.

A gunman, named as 64-year-old local resident Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the hotel towards an open-air music festival.

Police are continuing to work to establish the motive behind the mass shooting, having found 23 guns in the hotel room.

Investigations also found “in excess of” 19 firearms and explosives at his Nevada home.

But as yet, no clear reason for the killing has emerged.

More than 20,000 people were in attendance at the festival.

Paddock was found dead after officers stormed the room.

The attack is the worst mass shooting in recent US history.

Las Vegas Joe Sheriff Lombardo said police were now confident they had located a woman, earlier named as Marilou Danley, who was thought to have been travelling with the gunman before the attack.

Lombardo confirmed two off-duty police officers were among those killed.

Flights to Las Vegas McCarran airport were briefly diverted after news of the incident emerged.

Investigators have so far found no link to international terrorism.

This comes despite a claim from so-called Islamic State.

Some investigators have suggested psychological issues, but there is no confirmation of this as yet.
