A new luxury lodge is under construction in the 23 000-hectare Big Five Nambiti Private Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu Natal.

‘The Homestead’ is scheduled to open in late 2021 and will operate with a low-impact on its surroundings.

Accommodating up to 24 guests in a combination of deluxe suites with private infinity pools and luxury units, the lodge will combine privacy with panoramic views of the reserve. The main lodge will offer dining venues, conference facilities, a spa, gym and swimming pool.

The project is being financed by American group, Really Epic Dog (RED), which already has a presence in Africa through its involvement in the technology, sports and entertainment industries. This new venture is the group’s first expansion into tourism and conservation.

The group has worked closely with Durban-based architect, Dean Jay and his team. “The Homestead site evokes a unique spirit of place with the juxtaposition of the existing historic ruins, the lake and escarpment,” said Jay.

“Although we have all had to deal with what has been an unprecedented time, we have not wavered in our commitment to The Homestead project. We not only believe South Africa will emerge from COVID-19 and continue to attract tourists from all over the world, but we want to instil that belief and hope in others,” said President of RED, Benjamin Smith.
