In the wake of Steve Fitzgerald’s untimely death, the Angama Board has offered Nicky Fitzgerald the position of CEO, which she has accepted with immediate effect.

In a statement, Fitzgerald said: “As you are all painfully aware, this has been a very difficult time for me, my family and all the Angama staff, but we will rise to the challenge of making Steve’s dream come true, with your backing and ongoing support. Thank you for all your kind messages over the past three weeks – they have brought great comfort to both Kate and I.”

The board has also supported and confirmed her request to appoint Steve Mitchell as CFO, who stepped up during the weeks after Steve Fitzgerald’s heart transplant and death.

“Both Mitch and I are well aware of the large shoes we need to fill, and we are focused on what needs to be done in both the short and medium terms. He and I have worked side by side since the conception of Angama Mara and we complement each other well – I wish him success in his new position and can count on his support.”

Fitzgerald is currently at the lodge and working closely with the team to ensure ongoing smooth operations. “I am so proud of how they have kept delivering guest delight whilst mourning their loss – they all loved Steve dearly. They planned a farewell for him here yesterday, and in true Maasai style it was a very special occasion. We will honour his memory by fulfilling his dream up here high on the edge of Africa’s Great Rift Valley.”
