South African businessman, Robert Gumede, told local press that he was interested in investing in Zimbabwe’s tourism industry under the country’s new government.

The Zimbabwean government has promised to lower taxes for foreign investors in an attempt to lure foreign direct investment.

Times Live reports that Zimbabwe’s Finance Minister, Patrick Chinamasa, told a business meeting in Windhoek on Monday (January 15) that his government would go the distance to attract investors.

Gumede arrived in Harare on Sunday and told journalists that he was ready to invest US$1.2bn to help the government of Emmerson Mnangagwa achieve its short-term goals of turning around the economy.

On Monday, he met with Zimbabwe’s Vice President‚ Constantino Chiwenga. After the meeting Gumede told local journalists that he was looking at the possibility of building a five-star resort with a flagship hotel in Victoria Falls.
