SAA will not be moved out of National Treasury to the Department of Transport, a statement issued by the Presidency says.

The statement was issued after a Sunday Times report claimed that the embattled national carrier – moved from the Department of Public Enterprises to the National Treasury in 2014 – would move to the Department of Transport following the appointment of Dudu Myeni as Adviser to Transport Minister, Joe Maswanganyi.

Although the Presidency did not deny Myeni’s appointment, it stated categorically that moving SAA to the Transport Ministry was false. “The reports are incorrect. No such decision has been taken by government,” the statement read.

SAA remained at the National Treasury where it would continue to receive support and guidance as it rebuilt itself following the appointment of a new board and CEO, said the Presidency. “While there are many views about where certain entities may be better located as Government continues to look for ways of improving the performance of State-Owned Enterprises, that does not translate into a decision.”
